Spring has finally sprung at Pond House Stables!
The ducklings are here and the hanging baskets are up.
After spending almost four hours in the amazing afternoon sunshine, well into the evening on Wednesday planting roses and making up hangining baskets etc whilst Pippa and pals slid down the slide into the paddling pool. I was NOT happy when upon checking Rex yesterday evening, during water top up time he leant out of his stable like a giraffe and got hold of one of my roses, which I had planted outside his stable to look lovely, he swung it round and round. I pleaded with him to drop it, and finally when he did, I carefully replanted it and swiftly closed his stable door.
He's finally getting into this lovely weather and enjoying being back out grazing the new shoots that are coming through at last, and loving being hosed off after schooling...

Some of 2012's finer moments
This was one of Pond House Stables not so finer days last winter!
It was the wettest year in the UK on record, so we waited until the land was frozen well into the below zero's to have the muck removed, unfortunatly it began to thaw and the muck lorry with all our muck got stuck!
Not to worry the driver said he would - phone a friend, who was also stuck on
someone elses land in another of their muck lorries.
Finally this friend was towed out, and came to save the day with a full load on board (apparently they need the weight). Oh xxxx are the only words to sum this up, we now have two muck lorrys each with full loads of well in
excess of 20 odd tonnes of manure, well and truly stuck!
One bright idea was to dump it all again, oh no no no!
The other bright idea was to decorate the muck lorries with tinsel like our lovely stables and
have them spend Christmas here, this option was better then the first I thought.
Unfortunately this all started at about 8.30am, and it was now noon and the land was well above freezing now.
So, the driver managed to get a big local tractor in to pull the first lorry free, then he almost got stuck trying to get the original lorry out, it was no good. So, they ask me, don't suppose you know any folk with a BIG tractor?
And my mobile goes, it's John our friendly local farmer who delivers all our hay and straw, he had just passed and saw the first lorry leave and wondered if everything was OK? He was our saviour, and very kindly pulled the tractor,
who was attached to the fully loaded muck lorry free, at about 2.30pm just in time for me to collect Pippa from school.
What a relief! It's not yet over though...
I do however still have to explain to hubby why the land and our lawn is now churned to bits,
and clear all the mud left all over the yard, many thanks to one of our livery Sue who kindly helped me
clear this well into darkness.
It's dark and frozen again when hubby gets home so I put it off, hoping he might not notice, he is a sub editor,
it's his job to notice every tiny detail, and unfortunatrly for me our (at the time) five year old daughter Pippa lets it slips. Henry asks me whatever is she talking about, she does come out with lots of exciting stories,
and this was one of the best yet!
Roll on sunny days, at last the land has dried out and now it has been reseed, fertilised and harrowed
things are looking good, and with this lovely sun should start to grow again...

Whistling winds and blustery days...
The ducks and their new ducklings are enjoying finding any soggy areas still!
However, after the high blustery winds we have been having this week it is drying up, the horses have their heads down, and Rex has a new friend - Genella...
They were stabled next to each other and smooched over the door,
until she was upgraded to a premier stable up the other end of the yard,
they seem happy grazing nose to nose again, you can see them in the distance.

Spring has sprung
A busy weekend at Pond House Stables.
The paddocks got the VIp treatment -
grass seeding, organic (slow release) fertiliser spread and harrowed!
And Sunday Rex, Genella, Prince and Bonnie all enjoyed their first day of 2013
in the Summer Meadow!
